Dibujante y crítico de cómics. Es autor de trece libros sobre cómics y dibujos animados, entre los que figuran Milton Caniff: Conversations (2002), Meanwhile... A Biography of Milton Caniff, Creator of Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon (2007) o Insider Histories of Cartooning: Rediscovering Forgotten Famous Comics and Their Creators (2014). Fue galardonado con los premios All-Navy Cartoonist, 1960; the AAEC Ink Bottle Award, 2013, y el San Diego Comic-Con International Inkpot Award, 2018.
